Also called melegueta pepper, grains of paradise are actually in the ginger family. They are like peppercorns, but also carry a flavor reminscent of cloves, citrus, cardamom, and other warm spices. Use it in place of standard black pepper (great in cacio e pepe!) or combine it with black pepper in your pepper mill. To see the difference, try it on mild foods like rice, potatoes, and eggs.
