Chinatown of San Francisco popped up in the mid-1800s and is the oldest Chinatown in the United States. It represents an enclave of Chinese culture and traditions, from language and food to worship and social clubs.
For this seasoning, we wanted to make something that does China proud: a Sichuan inspired seasoning that makes the tongue tingle. Combining flavors of málà and guaiwei, this blend features hot and fruity chilies, Sichuan peppercorns, and warm and cool spices.
Sprinkle this seasoning over noodle and rice dishes, use it as the flavoring base for your own chili oil, add it to rubs, or even put a few pinches over vanilla ice cream (trust us on this).
