The Castro has held the distinction of being the center of gay culture since the 1960s and is epitomized by vibrant people, colors, and nightlife. The large Pride Flag at the corner of Market and Castro Streets welcomes everyone to the neighborhood and so we wanted to pay homage to that while also looking towards the future.
Our Castro blend, like the Castro itself, is made from an eclectic mix of ingredients, each one representing a color on the Progress Pride Flag:
- red: Aleppo pepper
- orange: orange peel
- yellow: coriander seed
- green: summer savory
- blue: poppy seed
- purple: lavender
- white: sea salt
- pink: rose petals
- light blue: fennel seed
- brown: cumin seed
- black: black sesame seed
This blend is colorful, a little hot, a little fruity, and a little cool—just like the denizens of its namesake. To use this seasoning, we recommend rubbing it on meat (of course we do) for grilling and roasting.
